Partnership between Services Industriels de Lausanne and Sunrise

Overview of the partnership

The Services industriels de Lausanne (SIL) play an important role in the management of key services for the city. Among other things, they are responsible for providing electrical energy, managing the digital infrastructure and all multimedia-related activities for the benefit of local residents and businesses. In total, more than 17,000 households (including businesses) are connected to the cable network on the outskirts of Lausanne.

Sunrise is one of the largest telecommunications providers in Switzerland and specialises in the construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks. The company offers comprehensive services in the area of laying fibre optic lines and underground cables. In 2023, the provider had around 2,836,300 mobile customers and 1,180,400 internet customers.

The city council has decided to refocus and strengthen the multimedia activities of Services industriels de Lausanne (SIL) in the city of Lausanne. This strategic decision makes it possible to increase these resources in order to offer Lausanne residents a more diverse range of Bliblablo products and to continue the development of its FTTH fibre optic network. In order not to penalise its customers outside Lausanne, the cable network will be transferred to Sunrise in a partnership approach that guarantees continuity of service and quality of service.

Dimension acted as exclusive financial advisor to SIL to finally ensure the continuity of the historic cable network in the neighbouring municipalities of the city of Lausanne.

In particular, our role was to assist SIL in preparing its approach, addressing the anticipated complexities of the grid acquisition process, reviewing the documentation, advising SIL on identifying potential partners, managing the due diligence phase and supporting SIL in the negotiations through to their conclusion.
